Accessibility
Every child can learn with Jero.
GANCE is built for children who see, hear, move and learn in different ways, and for the grown-ups who help them. This page says what works today, what arrives with lessons, and how to reach us.
Our standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, for the children's app and the grown-up portal. Where something below says Available now you can use it today; Coming with lessons means it ships with the lesson player.
Blind and low-vision learners
- Available nowJero reads every message aloud. Tap Hear it to hear it again.
- Available nowWorks with VoiceOver (iPhone, iPad, Mac), TalkBack (Android) and NVDA or JAWS (Windows). Jero's words are announced as they appear, and every button has a spoken name.
- Available nowText size: Normal, Large or Extra large under My settings, and the app also follows your device's zoom up to 400%.
- Available nowStrong colours: a high-contrast mode, switched on automatically when your device asks for more contrast.
- Available nowEverything works with a keyboard or switch control, with a visible focus ring and a "Skip to today's plan" link.
- Coming with lessonsLesson pictures and videos carry spoken descriptions, and activities never depend on colour alone.
Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners
- Available nowCaptions: everything Jero says is also shown in words on screen. Captions are on by default.
- Available nowFlash for sounds: when the app makes a sound, the screen edge flashes too, so no message depends on hearing.
- Available nowAsk a grown-up shows a full-screen message a nearby adult can see.
- Coming with lessonsEvery lesson video has captions and a written transcript, and no activity needs the child to listen or speak to finish it.
- Coming with lessonsSign-language support is being planned with Deaf educators; we will not ship it until it is reviewed by them.
Movement, attention and learning differences
- Available nowLarge buttons (at least 48 by 48 pixels) with space between them.
- Available nowCalm motion: less animation, switched on automatically when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Available nowTake a break pauses for two minutes with a breathing guide. The app never signs a child out during a break.
- Available nowNo timers race a child to answer, and sign-in for ages 2 to 8 is three pictures instead of a password.
Grown-ups: parents, teachers and schools
- Available nowThe portal works with screen readers and keyboards, has light and dark themes, and warns a minute before signing out for inactivity so no one is cut off mid-task.
- Available nowSign in with a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint), so there is no password to type.
Settings stay private
A child's access settings are kept on their own device. They are not sent to GANCE and are not used to profile anyone.
Tell us what isn't working
If anything in GANCE is hard to use, email info@ganceedu.com (subject "Accessibility") with what you were doing and the device you used. We reply within two working days, and we can send any document in large print, plain text or another format.
